CFHS RUNNING
NEWS JULY MEANS HOT WEATHER! Hydrate! You cannot be
drinking enough fluids in this type of weather. Avoid running in the heat of the day. Know the signs and symptoms of heat illness

THE WEEK IN REVIEW:
JULY
It is a hot month traditionally and one in which you
must take all possible precautions while running. Hydrate!
The running rule - “If you are thirsty, it’s too late” – is an absolute
truth. There should not be a time at any
point in the day when you are thirsty.
Water is the best coolant – sport drinks help with some of the
replacement issues – the Emergen-C drinks are good
for post workout electrolyte replacement.
Do what you have to do to be safe and healthy. Don’t be afraid to cut a run short or to skip
it if the weather is dangerously hot.
Early morning runs are about 15-20◦ cooler than the
afternoon so a little planning ahead can help.
Just be safe – and follow the Road Running Rules!
NEXT UP:
CROSS COUNTRY TRAINING CAMP
This is a reminder that the first day of practice is
on Wednesday night, August 11, 6:00PM at Harris Stadium. Do not report to this session out of
shape. We have high expectations for our
athletes and those begin with starting the season ahead of where you were last
year. If you haven’t been running – you had
better get moving now!
You must have a current physical (call the AD’s
Office at 440-247-2890 to confirm your expiration date) and all EMS paperwork
must be presented to the coaches. Paperwork
must be complete with all signatures and must be OUR team EMS packet! The school packet of information will not be
accepted. There are additional copies in
the Athletic Director’s Office (see Mr. Barch) if you
have misplaced yours. Without these
things, you will not be able to begin practice with our team on the 11th. Reminder – you must have 10 days of
supervised practice before you are allowed to compete (band camp will not be a
problem).
Any questions – you know how to contact us!
Medical paperwork must be kept
current, so be sure to check your physicals. If your name doesn’t appear,
you can get an official OHSAA examination form in the Athletic Office or you
can also download
it directly to your site.

STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS
SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 7
What a race! We
wish you could have all seen your team captain in action because she was
MAGNIFICENT! From the gun, she was off
and running with the lead pack and she never faltered. This was Kirsten’s third trip to
It sends a message to all of you: We can be there. We are good enough. We can be there and compete. We can be there and be great! There is no one out there we cannot beat when
we make up our minds that that is what we are going to do. If there is a lesson to be learned by our
young people for next year – for life – this is it. We are going to be good next year. We are going to go back. And we are going to be great!
Learn from the example that Kirsten set.
In the words of Winston Churchill – “Never give in. Never give in. Never, never, never, never--in nothing, great or small, large or
petty--never give in, except to convictions of honor and good sense.
Never yield to force. Never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the
enemy. Never give up.”
She
showed us all what has to be done. She
showed us all how to do it.
Congratulations to Kirsten! The
rest of you – get excited about 2010!
See you then!!
State Meet results are

finish eventually posted
here.
