CHAGRIN FALLS HIGH SCHOOL

March is here! March 1^st is Monday – INCREDIBLE!! And only 95 days until we step on the track at Jesse Owens for the first night of the State Championships in Outdoor! Now THAT is incredible! We must get to work!!

Step one:

There will be a team meeting at this time for all athletes who are interested in participating in Outdoor Track in the upcoming 2010 season. EMS paperwork is available in Coach Kirk’s room (322) and must be turned in by this meeting. Please check the current physical list and make sure you are up to date with this item.

Step two:

Practice starts on Monday, March 8, and will be every day from now on from 3:00-5:00PM. Please see your event coaches if you have a problem.

Indoor track athletes will remain with Coach Kirk until Monday and then we will schedule the Independence Meet (Fri., March 12). This will be our last chance to qualify for the Indoor State Championship Meet the following Saturday. At the moment, Lisa Roach has met the “A” standard in high jump, and Nate Lelonis is a “Provisional” in the 60M HH. We need to keep working on this and STAY IN TOUCH.

Looking forward to some warmer weather – looking forward to getting started!

Medical paperwork must be kept current, so be sure to check your physicals. If your name doesn’t appear, you can get an official OHSAA examination form in the Athletic Office or you can also download it directly to your site.

SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 7

What a race! We wish you could have all seen your team captain in action because she was MAGNIFICENT! From the gun, she was off and running with the lead pack and she never faltered. This was Kirsten’s third trip to Columbus and she made the most of it. She finished 10^th – she made the podium for the medal ceremony (top 15 get this honor) – she earns All-Ohio honors – she is Academic All-Ohio – she is the second highest finish ever at the State Cross Country Meet by a Chagrin Falls female and the third highest ever of boys and girls. She did it all with one big race. Although challenged down the homestretch, she held off the attack and went on to pass other people coming into the final few meters.

It sends a message to all of you: We can be there. We are good enough. We can be there and compete. We can be there and be great! There is no one out there we cannot beat when we make up our minds that that is what we are going to do. If there is a lesson to be learned by our young people for next year – for life – this is it. We are going to be good next year. We are going to go back. And we are going to be great!

Learn from the example that Kirsten set.

In the words of Winston Churchill – “Never give in. Never give in. Never, never, never, never--in nothing, great or small, large or petty--never give in, except to convictions of honor and good sense. Never yield to force. Never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy. Never give up.”

She showed us all what has to be done. She showed us all how to do it. Congratulations to Kirsten! The rest of you – get excited about 2010! See you then!!
